On November 8th, 2016 Kathleen was elected to be the State Senator for District 21 in Oregon.

Kathleen became the Democratic Nominee in the Oregon Primary in May 2016.  

She has also earned the cross-nominations of the
Working Families Party and the Independent Party of Oregon.

Kathleen will protect a woman's right to choose and will fight tirelessly to improve and enhance access and affordability of reproductive care in Oregon.  She believes in your ability to make your own choices about your body.  Kathleen is also a new co-Chair of the Oregon Women's Health and Wellness Alliance to advance legislation that supports women in Oregon.  That's why Kathleen has been endorsed by champions for choice, NARAL Pro-Choice OregonPlanned Parenthood PAC of Oregon, and WINPAC.


Kathleen believes that climate change is the issue of our time, and we must take bold steps to address this problem.  She is a member of the Environmental Caucus and has a perfect voting record on the OLCV Environmental Score Card.  Kathleen has worked diligently with advocates and colleagues to find solutions to our Air Quality crisis.  Kathleen is a progressive environmental champion, that's why she's endorsed by the Oregon League of Conservation Voters and Oregon Chapter of the Sierra Club.


 

Kathleen Taylor earned the Basic Rights Oregon Equality PAC endorsement because she is the pro-equality candidate for Senate District 21.  Kathleen will work to ensure the voices of LGBTQ Oregonians are heard and are represented in state policy.  While Equal Marriage is a big victory, Kathleen knows there is more work to be done.  She will defend the progress that has been made, and will continue to fight for a lived-equality for all Oregonians regardless of their sexual orientation or gender expression.  

 


Improving experiences and outcomes for students to ensure that all students have an equal chance of success is one of Kathleen's priorities.  Kathleen also knows we must support our teachers and school professionals.  Kathleen will work to ensure increased investments in education from pre-Kindergarten, to K-12, and higher education.  Kathleen is endorsed by the Oregon Education AssociationPortland Association of TeachersAmerican Federation of TeachersAmerican Association of University Professionals, and the Oregon School Employees Association.


 

 

The Mother PAC knows that Kathleen will fight for what's best for Oregon Families.  Kathleen voted to raise Oregon's Minimum Wage and she sponsored the Paid Sick Days law.  Kathleen will fight for Fair Workweek and Paid Family Leave legislation, policies that support working individuals and prioritize a family's needs.  Kathleen will continue to support affordable childcare, affordable and accessible healthcare, and equal pay.  Kathleen also supports legislation that is reflective of modern families and believes every Oregon family, no matter its configuration, should be treated equally.


The Safety and Justice PAC works on issues of criminal justice reform and victim's services.  They support candidates they trust to promote their work, including evidence-based, safe and sensible sentencing reform that reduces our correction costs while effectively maintaining public safety. They also work to ensure we care for victims of crime by protecting and strengthening victim services, and seek to strengthen community-based addiction treatment, mental health services, re-entry programs and law enforcement approaches proven to reduce crime and create long-term savings for the state.
